Owner Builds Gallery Wall for Rescue Labrador Mix—Then Reality Hits

A rescue dog’s dramatic reaction to the gallery wall his owner curated especially for him has left the internet in hysterics, as one particular addition didn’t leave him looking all that pleased.

Dog owner Julia, 26, certainly needs no excuse to pamper her Labrador mix named Ozzy, and she couldn’t resist designing a gallery wall just for him. Julia, of Jersey City, New Jersey, told Newsweek that she “got inspired” after seeing the idea on Pinterest, and she loved the idea of collating his favorite things and making the space above his bowls truly his own.

She incorporated a digital print that says, “Dogs Eat Free,” a picture of sardines on a striped background (due to Ozzy’s solve of fish), a clay impression of his paw, a New Yorker cover of a dog park, and even one of Ozzy’s worn-out tennis balls.

Needless to say, Julia was delighted with how it turned out, but Ozzy not so much.

“The gallery wall was up for about a month before one day he randomly noticed the tennis ball in the frame,” Julia said. “I could tell he was so confused because he was pawing at it and whining, sniffing it, and trying to get it out.

“The tennis ball is the only toy in the frame, and it was already ripped in half. Instead of throwing it away, why not use it in another way? He has plenty of other balls to play with that are much harder to rip.”

Indeed, Julia shared a hilarious clip on the dog’s dedicated TikTok account (@ozzythelabmix) showing the moment he realized there was a tennis ball in the frame. The clip shows how unimpressed he was in that moment, as he even tried to get the ball out himself.

Internet users can’t get enough of Ozzy’s reaction to the new décor. Since the video was shared on February 9, it has gone viral with over 626,600 views and 97,800 likes on TikTok at the time of writing.

Thankfully, Ozzy seems to have accepted that the ball is just there for design. However, Julia did catch him approaching the frame once again as though he suddenly remembered the ball was there. “It was like he forgot about it, but after a few minutes of investigating, he moved on,” Julia continued.

Julia rescued Ozzy in 2024, and she loves sharing clips of the pup living his best life now. Adopting him has impacted Julia in such a powerful way, she is even training for a marathon in October, for which she is fundraising for an animal rescue organization.

How Did TikTok React?

The online response to the TikTok video is beyond anything Julia anticipated. She has heard from so many other owners who felt inspired to create their own gallery walls for their pups and has received countless messages from people whose dogs are Ozzy’s lookalikes.

Julia told Newsweek that Ozzy is “really a mutt,” as a DNA test showed that he’s 30 percent Labrador and the rest is a mix of other breeds. So, hearing from so many other owners with dogs who look similar to him has been a great experience.

“It’s been so fun to see and we have actually found so many of Ozzy’s doppelgangers, which has been the craziest thing,” Julia continued.

The viral TikTok post has generated 100 comments so far, as many internet users lauded Ozzy’s investigative skills and concern for his beloved tennis ball.

One comment reads: “Certified goodest boy.”

Another TikTok user wrote: “He is not happy about that ball.”

While one commenter joked: “My lab would literally rip it down. Her love for a tennis ball is unmatched.”
