Coach Beccacece climbed over the fence to celebrate with his family and Ecuadorian fans in the stands.
Ecuador's 2-1 victory over Germany in the final match of Group E not only secured their place in the 2026 World Cup Round of 32 as one of the eight best third-placed teams, but also created one of the most emotional moments of the tournament.
After the final whistle at MetLife Stadium (New Jersey), coach Sebastian Beccacece didn't immediately join the celebrations with his players. Instead, the Argentinian strategist embraced his coaching staff, then unexpectedly ran towards the stands behind the technical area. He climbed over the fence, clinging to the railing to hug family and friends who were watching the game. Beccacece remained in that position for almost a minute before returning to the field to celebrate with the rest of the team.
Meanwhile, in the stands, many Ecuadorian fans couldn't hold back their tears. On the pitch, the players also erupted in joy after completing a spectacular comeback. Midfielder Moises Caicedo lay sprawled on the grass, then knelt down facing the sky to celebrate securing their place in the next round.
Gonzalo Plata scored the decisive goal in the 77th minute, helping Ecuador turn the tide after the two teams had been tied 1-1 for most of the match.

Beccacece's climb into the stands quickly went viral on social media. Many compared him to "Spider-Man" for his way of climbing into the spectator area to share his emotions with his family. "A true Spider-Man celebration," one fan commented. Others called Beccacece "Coach Spider-Man," while many others said he was "the happiest man in the world right now."
Some even jokingly asked, "Did he just win the World Cup ?", while another commented, "Tonight, he is all of Marvel's superheroes."
Beccacece's emotional outburst became a highlight after the historic victory, especially after a period of intense pressure from Ecuadorian fans due to the disappointing results in the two previous matches.
