Over 27,000 Kelana Jaya LRT line commuters are expected to be affected by morning delays due to upgrading work for their signalling system. The affected stations will begin operations at 9am, instead of the usual 6am.
Due to this, the vending machines for token purchases will only be operational from 8:45am onwards.
According to a report by BERNAMA, Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) group Chief Operating Officer (Strategy and Development), Dr Prodyut Dutt, explained that the upgrade works will be carried out in two phases over several weekends.
The phases include:
- Phase 2 (10 stations from KLCC to Gombak):
- August 9 & 10 (Sat & Sun), 16 & 17 (Sat & Sun), 23 (Sat)
- September 5 (Fri), 6 & 7 (Sat & Sun), 14 (Sun)
- Phase 3 (17 stations from Lembah Subang to Ampang Park):
- October 11 & 12 (Sat & Sun), 18 & 19 (Sat & Sun)
- November 1 (Sat), 15 & 16 (Sat & Sun), 22 (Sat)
“We are going to upgrade all the signals, both software and hardware, because both are obsolete. We are also implementing critical enhancements for cybersecurity and data analytics,” he shared.
Dr Prodyut Dutt added that the upgrading works are necessary to overhaul the system that has been in operation for 25 years.
Alternative transportation
Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd acting chief executive officer, Nor Azmi Mohd Yusof, shared that there will be buses and vans available to assist affected commuters from 6am to 9am.
“Commuters need not worry, and free feeder buses and vans will be provided to connect the affected stations and ensure smooth travel,” he said.
For Phase 2, 13 feeder buses, 5 shuttle buses and 5 vans will be utilised, while for Phase 3, 60 buses and 5 vans will be utilised. Meanwhile, station staff, auxiliary police officers, and Prasarana Troopers (trained volunteers) will be placed at affected stations to assist commuters.
